About memorial and commemorative benches

Many people get in touch with us wishing to remember an event or celebrate loved ones by installing a bench in a public park, open space or the side of a road.

We provide and maintain seats and benches in public open spaces within our ownership only - Please contact the landowner direct should you wish to install a bench on privately owned land.

Due to the popularity of memorial benches, many of our main parks and open spaces are reaching capacity, which may lead to over populations and inappropriate positioning of a bench in some areas.

Where a new bench is agreed, it should match the style and specification with other public benches close by. In locations where an additional bench is not possible, plaques maybe made available for purchase and fitted on to existing benches. Charges for plaques include a contribution towards the refurbishment of the bench or similar in the area.

Note:  bench or memorial plaque requests in cemeteries are covered by separate regulations. These are administered by the Cemetery Superintendent¬†who you can contact online.
