Play area re-opens at Biddulph's Church Road

Play facilities at Church Road in Biddulph are now open again following refurbishment after anti-social behaviour meant they were closed for several months.

Staffordshire Moorlands District Council had to close the play area and remove items of equipment and safety surfacing following vandalism.

The Council has now installed new flat and toddler swings and returned the roundabout and large basket swing to the site allowing it to re-open to the public. Landscaping has created a new pathway through the site and the tunnel has been removed. New benches have also been installed.

Councillor Brian Johnson, cabinet member with responsibility for parks and children's play areas at the Council, said: "Play areas such as this are valued by the local community and the people that use these facilities so I am pleased that we have been able to re-open this amenity at Church Road.

"However, the reason it had to be closed in the first place was because of misuse so I would appeal to people to use these facilities responsibly and respect the purpose for which they have been provided.

"We, and our partners including the police and Your Housing group, will be monitoring the site to ensure its proper use and enjoyment and we are very clear that further acts of vandalism and anti-social behaviour will not be tolerated."

There is space within the play area for additional items of equipment and the Council is keen to work with the local community to raise funding. If you would like to be involved in this project please contact Sally Curley at the Council on 0345 605 3010 or email her at sally.curley@highpeak.gov.uk
