Information on what to do if you have lost or found a dog

What to do if you have lost your dog, or found one.

If you have lost your dog

We keep a record of all found dogs that are reported lost and found to us, so we may already have your dog listed on our dog register.

To report your dog as lost, you can contact customer services on 0345 605 3014 Monday to Friday.

We always try to return a found dog to its owner, but if we can't identify or contact its owner, we will take it to City Dogs Home. If you've confirmed with us that your dog is there, you will also need to contact the kennels directly on 01782 304130 and arrange collection. There will be a charge, which will be confirmed by the kennels.

If you have found a dog

If you found a dog, you can contact customer services on 0345 605 3014 Monday to Friday.

We do not operate an out of hours collection service.

If you find a stray dog after this time, or we are unable to collect the dog,  you can take the dog to City Dogs home between 9.00am - 5.00pm Monday to Friday, Saturday, Sundays and Bank holidays.  Please call them first on 01782 304130.

Unclaimed stray dogs

We have a statutory duty to keep the dog in kennels for 7 days. If the dog is not claimed after this time, the owner loses all rights to it. The dog is then usually offered for re-homing.

If you find a stray dog which isn't claimed within 7 days, you may be able to keep it. The dog warden will contact you to discuss this.
