Giveaways and double points at Leek market this weekend

Published 11 March 2019

Shoppers in Leek are being invited to join market traders this weekend to celebrate the completion of improvement works to the town's indoor markets.

Staffordshire Moorlands District Council has carried out works to make the Butter and Trestle markets warmer, and wind and water tight, by installing a modern, efficient heating system and new glazing.

And the Council wants shoppers to join in events on Saturday 16 March when the monthly Farmers' Market will, as usual, be offering tasty treats, local craft ales and street food alongside the Archer Fair's collectors and craft market.

There'll also be free jute shopping bags to give away to the lucky first 100 shoppers to visit the markets from 9am and double loyalty card points for all purchases over £5. Juggler Jim Millar will also be on hand to entertain the crowds with his circus skills.

Councillor Edwin Wain, Cabinet member for planning, development and property at the Council, said: "Markets help to boost the local economy and attract visitors and shoppers and here in Leek our markets continue to grow.

"The Council's investment is a clear demonstration of the value we place on the future of our markets and we want locals and shoppers to come and join us next weekend to help celebrate the completion of this latest investment project and show their support for Leek's markets and our traders."

As part of the Council's commitment to investing in its markets, Leek's indoor markets have been rebranded with a contemporary new logo featuring the history and heritage of the Victorian buildings.
