Council set to repair 12 Moorlands car parks this summer

Published on 19 July 2019

Twelve off-street car parks across the Staffordshire Moorlands are to be repaired this summer - starting at Wharf Road in Biddulph in the week commencing 29 July.

Staffordshire Moorlands District Council is investing £366,500 in the eight-week improvement programme which will include resurfacing, line painting and painting bollards and furniture.

The work at Wharf Road will take around eight days. Provision will be made to enable electrical vehicle charging points to be installed in the future and two parent and child spaces will be created.

The other car parks to benefit are:

Mill Hayes in Biddulph

Market Street East, Market Street West, Silk Street, High Street, Regent Street, St Edwards Street, Stockwell Street, Birchall Playing Fields and Smithfield North in Leek

Old Road in Tean

All car parks - except Market Street East and West, St Edwards Street and Regent Street - will be repaired in two halves to enable some parking provision to be retained during the works.

Councillor Edwin Wain, Cabinet Member for Planning, Development and Property, said: "We're investing in these works to improve our off-street parking facilities in Biddulph, Leek and Tean.

"Obviously, work of this nature will cause some short-term disruption which we have tried to keep to a minimum. I would just like to ask drivers, shoppers, businesses and visitors to please bear with us whilst we carry out these necessary upgrades and thank people in advance for their patience."
