Spooktacular events this Halloween at Leek markets

Published on 18 October 2019

Pumpkins aplenty is a sure sign that Halloween is just around the corner and Leek markets is hosting a special carving workshop to help make sure your creations stand out from the crowd this October.

A free event is taking place at the Trestle Market between 9.30am and 3pm on Wednesday 30 October to help you prepare your masterpiece in readiness for trick or treaters the following day.

Bring along a pumpkin and join the skilled workshop leader who will help you mark out your design for those aged over 16 to carve. Younger participants can get involved by helping to scoop out and prepare the pumpkins for carving or by painting and decorating their pumpkins.

And you can keep the festivities going by joining bat-hunters on Saturday 2 November on a Totally Locally Bat Hunt trail to see if you can find the bats hiding in locations across Leek including the indoor market and the Nicholson Museum and Art Gallery.

Successful hunters will be able to claim treats along their way to completing the trail and claiming a final goodie bag - the Nicholson is also one of the collection points for the goodie bags.

Councillor Edwin Wain, Cabinet Member for Planning, Development and Property at Staffordshire Moorlands District Council, said: "This autumn and winter is shaping up to be a busy and exciting period for Leek markets with plenty of seasonal activities and specialist markets to look forward to.

"Halloween is the next event in the calendar and we're getting in the spirit with events to encourage people to support their local traders and boost the local economy.

"The markets in Leek are thriving with plenty of variety to suit everyone so come and join in the Halloween fun and see what's available on your doorstep."
