£140k for more Tean Road rec improvements
Published on 20 December 2022
Better changing facilities and a refurbished bowling pavilion are amongst a range of improvement projects set to be completed at Tean Road Recreation Ground - thanks to funding of £140,000 from Staffordshire Moorlands District Council.
It follows the delivery of a number of projects at the Cheadle site in recent years - including new toddler play areas, an improved and extended skate park, a new multi-use games area and tennis courts - which have proved popular with the community and encouraged wider use of the recreation ground by young people and families.
Further improvements were earmarked as the next stage of the project and the District Council has worked with Cheadle Town Council to agree a plan, and funding, for:
- Improvements to the changing facilities for football teams using the site
- External and internal refurbishment of the existing bowling pavilion
- Additional car parking spaces and resurfacing works
- Refurbishment of the toilet block
- Provision of a youth shelter in an appropriate location
Councillor Mark Deaville, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Sports and Leisure, said: "Moving more is important at every stage of our lives so I'm delighted that we are investing in a range of improved amenities at Tean Road to create active outdoor environments and facilities that enable greater levels of activity.
"The projects we've already delivered have been a great success and we've seen people making good use of the site as a result. This next phase of improvements will only increase the attractiveness of the recreation ground to more groups and individuals, so I'm delighted that we're able to support the Town Council by providing this substantial funding."
