Improving leisure facilities in Forsbrook and Draycott
Published on 10 March 2023
Work has started on projects to improve recreational and sports facilities in Forsbrook and Draycott.
Staffordshire Moorlands District Council has allocated a total of £210,000 towards these schemes - £133,000 in Forsbrook and £77,000 in Draycott.
At Jubilee Gardens recreation ground in Forsbrook, a 400m tarmac perimeter pathway for exercise, that can be accessed by people of all abilities, will be installed along with a range of outdoor gym equipment. The existing pump track at the site will also be refurbished.
And in Draycott, a new Padel tennis facility and mini tennis court will be provided at the Sports Club and two artificial turf tennis courts will be resurfaced. Improvements to general site access and parking provision, including disabled parking provision, are also planned along with the provision of disabled changing facilities.
Councillor Mark Deaville, Deputy Leader and Cabinet member for sport and leisure, said: "It's great that these projects are now getting underway after the Council contributed a significant amount of funding to ensure they could happen.
"We're committed to providing a diverse range of sporting and recreational facilities in communities across the Moorlands - a commitment we're delivering on in Draycott and Forsbook.
"We all know that being more active and spending time outdoors is good for both our physical and mental wellbeing. That's why providing and improving places that enable people to do that is so important and why I'm delighted that work has now started.
"We've worked closely with Forsbrook Parish Council and with the volunteer directors of Draycott Sports Club to ensure what we're delivering meets their aims and encourages more people to participate in the activities being offered.
"I'd like to thank them for working with us to get these projects to this point and we all now look forward to seeing the projects finished and to welcoming local people who, I know, will make good use of these amenities."
