Plans for Brough Park Leisure Centre to go on show
Published on 12 April 2024
Plans for new and improved facilities at Brough Park Leisure are set to be revealed next week - and Staffordshire Moorlands District Council wants to hear your views.
Display boards showing the proposals will be available to view online, and both inside and outside the Leisure Centre, from Monday 15 April until Friday 10 May and we're inviting people to get involved by sharing their views on the spaces being proposed.
We want to hear from people who already use the Centre as well as people who don't, so we can ensure the facility is welcoming to as many people as possible.
A formal planning application is being submitted to the Council reflecting these plans and it will be also be available to view in the near future via the planning portal on the website.
The plans include:
- A new 25m six-lane pool with a separate teaching pool
- New swimming pool changing facilities including a 'changing places' room
- Extended and refurbished gym
- A second large group exercise studio
- A dedicated indoor cycling studio
The Council is also seeking further funding to provide an even wider range of facilities which could include an indoor adventure/soft play area and community wellness suite - a new space where people can access a range of tailored support programmes such as Steps to Health which involves being referred for exercise by your GP.
Views are also being sought on aspirations to enhance some of the outdoor spaces immediately outside the Leisure Centre. Comments made during this consultation will help shape future plans and funding applications for these spaces.
Rob Wilks, Head of Service Commissioning at the Council, said: "A lot of work has been done to get us to this point and we're pleased to share these plans with the public and ask for their thoughts and opinions on what is being proposed.
"The comments received will help refine the internal plans as we head into the detailed design phase and also influence where additional investment could be made - particularly to the outside spaces. I'd like to encourage as many people as possible to get involved with the consultation and tell us what you think."
For people unable to visit the Leisure Centre, the same information, including links to a short survey, will also be available on the Council's website from Monday 15 April.
The Council is making this significant investment in improving the Leisure Centre after it was awarded over £17m from the Levelling Up fund to regenerate Leek. Projects to rejuvenate the Butter and Trestle markets and improve the Nicholson Institute are also underway.
