Register and protect your bike at free safety event

Cyclists are invited to a free event this weekend where they can register their bikes as part of a national scheme to help reunite lost or stolen bikes with their owners.

Registering on the Bike Register National Database generates a code which is displayed on the bike frame and then sets so that it cannot be removed. This unique code can help trace the owners of recovered bikes.

Staffordshire Moorlands District Council and the Police are hosting the registration session at Cheadle Police Station from 11am to 3pm on Saturday 21 December.

Cabinet member for Communities, Councillor Bill Cawley, said: "If you've got a cycle, or you're planning to gift one this Christmas, this is a great way to help keep it safe. It doesn't cost anything so please come along and help protect your property."

The Police will be holding a surgery offering information and advice and local youth work support representatives and officers from the Community Safety team at the Council will also be offering support.
