Bin supply FAQs

Answers to frequently asked questions

There is a charge for the supply of replacement bins.

A significant reduction in central government funding means we have a reduced budget and like many other councils are no longer able to provide replacement wheeled bins free of charge. The charge is to cover some of the supply and administration costs.

How much is the charge?

There is a charge per bin.

Who has to pay?

The supply charges apply to everyone. When a bin is missing, stolen or damaged. There are also charges if you want to swap to a larger or smaller bin. Fees apply to all bins regardless of size or colour.

Why has the council started to charge?

To help cover administration and supply costs.

It's not my fault the bin is missing or damaged; I pay my council tax so why do I have to pay extra?

Your Council Tax covers the cost of waste collection, it doesn't cover the cost of bin supply.

I don't want to pay for a new bin. Can I buy my own or put my rubbish out in sacks?

No. We will only collect waste from wheeled bins provided by us.

How can I prevent my bin from going missing or getting damaged?

You can reduce the risk of your bin going missing or being stolen by marking it with your address and returning it to your property as soon as possible after collection.

Who is responsible for paying for bins shared between properties?

Residents who use shared bins are jointly responsible.

How can I order a new bin?

Read our guidance before you order and pay for a new bin.

Can I collect my new bin(s)?

No. All our depots are closed to members of the public.

What do I do with my rubbish until the bin is delivered?

Store your rubbish in sacks and put them inside the bin when it is delivered.

Who does the bin belong to?

Bins remain the property of the council.

Someone has taken my bin; why should I pay?

It is your responsibility to look after your bins.

I've had a note from the crew; do I still have to pay?

If we have spotted your bin is damaged we will let you know.

Can I have a refund if I order the wrong container?

We are unable to give a refund once the bin has been supplied.

Will you still collect my waste if I don't pay for a replacement bin?

We only collect waste presented in one of our bins or specified containers.
