Council serves up support for Endon tennis ace

Endon's rising tennis star Harrison Birch is a name to watch out for in the future as he serves up success in the highly competitive world of international junior tennis.

The 15-year-old is already the number one tennis player in the Staffordshire Under 18's age group and has competed in five 'Tennis Europe' competitions picking up wins against players from Sweden, Ireland, France and Brazil and reaching the final of the singles and doubles events.

Harrison has also competed in one of the International Tennis Federation Under 18's tournaments - a major route to the professional circuit - and been invited to play in Bahrain and Dubai by Bath University's ITF team. He finished sixth on the Summer National Tour leader board and on the Regional Tour he won the Under 18's and men's singles at Liverpool, Swansea and Huddersfield.

And now Staffordshire Moorlands District Council has got onside with an award from its sports grant fund of £319 to help Harrison continue his journey.

Council Leader, Councillor Sybil Ralphs, said: "We were delighted to be able to provide this grant to Harrison to support him as his continues to develop his tennis career.

"Achieving success in any sport requires hard work and dedication so it's great to see that translating into success for this young man from Endon. It was a pleasure to meet him and his family and we wish him every success in what I am sure will be a very bright future."
