Registering to Vote

Your name must appear on the electoral register for you to vote in an election or referendum.

To vote in this election you needed to be registered by 18 June 2024.


Voting by Post

Your completed application for a postal vote must have been received by 5pm on Wednesday 19 June 2024.

If you have applied for a Postal Vote for the UK Parliamentary Election between the 1st June 2024 and the deadline of 5pm on Wednesday 19th June 2024, your postal vote will be delivered to you around the 28th June 2024.

Apply to vote by proxy

A proxy vote is where you nominate someone to vote on your behalf.

You can either:

Your completed application for a proxy vote must be received or made online by 5pm on Wednesday 26 June 2024.


Voter photo ID at a polling station

On election day you will need to show one form of photographic ID to staff at the polling station, but it needs to be the original version and not a scan, image or photocopy.

You cannot use a picture of the document on your phone, it must be the original document. If you have a form of accepted photo ID which is out of date, you can still use it if it still looks like you.

If you don't have photo ID

If you don't already have an accepted form of photo ID, or you're not sure whether your photo ID still looks like you, you can apply for a free voter ID document, known as a Voter Authority Certificate. You can apply for this at voter-authority-certificate.service.gov.uk.

To apply you will need:

  • a recent, digital photo of yourself
  • your National Insurance number

You will need to be registered to vote before you apply for a Voter Authority Certificate. 

The last day to apply for a Voter Authority Certificate is 5pm on Wednesday 26 June 2024.
