Brough Park Leisure Centre - alternative venues shared

Published on 17 September 2024

With work on the £17 million redevelopment of Brough Park Leisure Centre set to start next month, Staffordshire Moorlands District Council has shared further details of the alternative venues people can use whilst the centre is closed.

Whilst this fantastic upgrade to Brough Park is being completed many existing user groups and clubs have already been moved or guaranteed slots at the Council's other leisure centres in Biddulph and Cheadle and memberships are valid at these sites.

People with children taking part in swimming lessons have the option to switch these to either Biddulph, Cheadle or Buxton - just make contact with the team at Brough Park and they will discuss the most suitable options with you.

The latest addition to alternative arrangements is that many of the extremely successful group exercise classes currently running at Brough Park will transfer to Birchall Pavilion, where a wide range of classes will remain on offer starting early in October, including Zumba, Body Pump, Yoga, Pilates and Indoor Cycle sessions.

Existing members have the option of using Biddulph Valley and South Moorlands leisure centres and have access to the gym, swimming, squash, and classes at those sites plus the classes at Birchall Pavilion.

New memberships for people who only want to attend the classes at Birchall Pavilion  are available for a fee of £25 per month. For more information, and to book classes, please speak to the team at Brough Park.

Councillor Matt Swindlehurst, Cabinet Member for Leisure and Tourism, said: "From 1 October the new Council-controlled company will take over the management of all three of our leisure centres and, at the same time, we are also closing Brough Park to embark on the major redevelopment of the centre.

"This includes new pools, fitness facilities, indoor adventure/soft play and a community wellness suite. As people will understand, it's impossible to carry out a construction project like this and keep the centre open so there will be a period of approximately 18 months when the centre is closed for these works to happen. We have been working hard to try to offer as many alternatives as possible during this period.

"Signposting people to what is available whilst these improvements are made continues to help customers plan in advance to make sure they can remain active and engaged in a wide range of opportunities, albeit at different venues, during this time."
